Herman Hu is the Chairman of Ryoden Development Ltd, a property development and direct investment company. Besides being a successful business, Herman has dedicated a substantial amount of his time to public service, serving on the board of over a dozen organization over the years. Herman played tennis growing up, and is credited for bringing international senior tennis to HK. He has been awarded multiple times for his service.

𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞:

Herman Hu was born and raised in Hong Kong.  He graduated from UC Berkeley with a BSc in Comp. Sc. & Elec. Engineering in 1976.  Subsequently he returned to Hong Kong to join his father’s company, Ryoden Electrical Engineering Co Ltd. as a trainee engineer.  And eventually became Vice Chairman & Managing Director.  Herman led development of the Mitsubishi brand and products in Greater China, Singapore, Malaysia.  Mitsubishi products included elevators, escalators, home appliances, air conditioning plants, computers, telecommunication equipment, power generation plants, industrial automation systems, semi-conductors etc.  In 2004, he retired from the company after selling their share of the company to the Japanese partners.

Herman then got involved in real estate development and direct investments.  He is currently Chairman of Ryoden Development Co Ltd and Chairman of Arte Hong Kong Ltd.  Some of the direct investments include Arte, a Spanish fashion jewelry brand, King Parrott Group, 30 restaurants chain in Hong Kong.

Herman spends a large portion of his time in public and community service, mainly focused on education, sports and youth.  During 2012-18, he served as Council Chairman of the City University of Hong Kong.  He was Deputy of the 12th and 13th National Peoples’ Congress (2013-23); Vice Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong; Vice President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong; President of the Hong Kong Veteran Tennis Association; President of the Hong Kong Darts Federation; Honorary Patron of the Hong Kong Tennis Association; Life Vice President of the Asian Tennis Federation; Honorary President of the Hong Kong Cycling Association and Vice President of the Hong Kong Playground Association.  He is a Rotary member since 1979 and YPO since the 80s.  Herman received an Honorary Doctor degree in Social Science from CityU in 2018, and is an Adjunct Professor of Hang Seng University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.  For his outstanding service, Herman was awarded JP, BBS and SBS in 2000, 2011 and 2017 respectively.

Herman has 2 sons and 3 grandchildren.  Both his sons have PhD degrees, one in psychology and the other in biomedical engineering.
